Edwin HOGG, son of William HOGG (c. 1847- ) and Emma CLARKE (c. 1850- ), was born on 12th June 1881 in North Lopham, Norfolk. Edwin enlisted at Norwich, Norfolk on 5th April 1916, called up on 8th April, and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, Private 28450, on 11th April. To 5th September 1916 he served on home soil. From 6th September 1916 he served in his unit with the B.E.F. in France. On 22nd March 1918 he was reported missing. On 12th April 1918 he found to be a Prisoner of War, held at Munster III. On 17th December 1918 he was repatriated and posted back to his regimental depot. He was demobbed on 13th March 1919 and on 20th March was transferred to Class “Z” Army Reserve. He died on 14th October 1947 in North Lopham and was buried there on 18th October - age 67 years. He had his estate probated on 3rd December 1947 in Norwich - “HOGG Edwin of Burchers Farm North Lopham Norfolk died 14 October 1947 at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital St. Stephens-road Norwich Probate Norwich 3 December to Herbert Robert Hogg naval pensioner and Charles Wesley Gilbert farmer. Effects £1487 1s. 2d.”.
